John R. Ernst, Sr.

John R. Ernst, Sr., 53, formerly of Hampton and Shaler, PA., passed away at 12:01 AM February 3, 2012 at his residence on East Edison Avenue in New Castle, PA.

John was born in Pittsburgh on February 28, 1958 to Robert C. Ernst, Sr. and the late Lottie ‘Clark’ Ernst of Millvale, PA. He has been married for 33 years to the former Deborah Parks, who survives him at home.

In addition to his Wife and Father, he is survived by his Daughter; Heather Ernst and Son; John R. Ernst, Jr. both of New Castle, a Brother; Robert Ernst, Jr. of Butler, a Sister; Diane Reitz of Sunberry, PA., Brothers and Sisters-in Law; Edward and Sherri Parks of Rochester, NY., Ralph and Cathy Parks of Garner, NC., John Parks of Houston, James Parks of Tulsa, OK., and Kenneth Parks of Pittsburgh. He also leaves behind many Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nieces, and Nephews.

Private services will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Clementina E. Moore

Clementina E. Moore, 91, of Harlansburg Road, Hickory Twp. passed away at 12:30 pm on December 24 at the VA Medical Center in Butler.

Clementina was born in Pittsburgh on February 10, 1920 to the late Elias and Clementine ‘Plowmaker’ Guenther. She was married to Edwin L. Moore, Sr. for 60 years before his passing in July of 2008.

She served in the Army as a First Lieutenant during WWII. She was a member of the Neshannock Presbyterian Church, VFW Post 315, and the Perry S. Gaston American Legion Post.

Mrs. Moore is survived by her daughter; Joan B. Ketchum of New Castle, three sons; Dennis Moore of Mt. Jackson, Edwin L. Moore, Jr. of New Castle, Craig A. Moore of Beaver, 7 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and a brother; John Guenther of Garden Grove, CA.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Moore was preceded in death by two brothers; Paul and Harry Guenther, and two sisters; Agnes Mazey and Helen Paoletti.

Visitation will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm Tuesday (Dec. 27) at the Turner-Myers Funeral Home, 208 North Jefferson Street in New Castle.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday (Dec. 28) at the Neshannock Presbyterian Church and will be conducted by Rev. Gary Waguespak, pastor of the church and assisted by Rev. Robert Strobel of the Evangel Community Church.

Interment will follow at the Neshannock Presbyterian Church Cemetery where military rites will be performed by the New Castle Area Honor Guard.

Beryl Brown

Beryl Brown, 83, of Aiken Road, Shenango Twp. passed away at the Jameson Care Center on December 6 at 4:15 pm.

Beryl was born in Rose Point on May 13, 1928 to the late Ira and Gladys ‘Kennedy’ Brown.
She taught elementary school in the Farrel School District and was a lifelong member of the Rose Point Reformed Presbyterian Church where she also taught Sabbath School and was a member of the church’s Missionary Society.

Beryl is survived by two sisters, Jesse Mae McFarland of Pittsburgh and Mary Stoner of New Castle. She is also survived by 10 nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Russell Brown and her sister Jean Brown.

Visitation will by Friday (Dec. 9) from 1 to 2 pm at the Rose Point Reformed Presbyterian Church.

Funeral services will follow at 2 pm Friday at the church and will be conducted by Reverend Charles Brown, pastor.

Interment will be in the Rose Point Reformed Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Mary L. Marks

Mary L. Marks, 86, of Roosevelt Street, Shenango Township, passed away at 2:15 p.m. Nov. 24, 2011 in Jameson Hospital.
Most recently, she had been living at the Overlook Medical Center in New Wilmington.

Born Sept. 24, 1925, in New Castle, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Theolinda Manilla Ludovici.
She was married to William W. Marks for 66 years. He survives.

Mary was of the Pentacostal faith.
She was very devoted to her family, and she was a wonderful cook, homemaker and mother.
She and her husband were avid square dancers.

She is survived by three daughters; Bonnie Ryan of Wampum and Lavonne Lyles and Kimberly Buntman, both of New Castle; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Jennie Ludovici of New Castle.

She was preceded in death by a son, William J. Marks in 2004; an infant twin brother and sister; and two brothers, Edward Ludovici in 1981 and Joseph Ludovici in 1974.

Visitation will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Turner-Myers Funeral Home, 208 N. Jefferson St. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Castle View Memorial Gardens.

Diane M. Palmer

Diane M. Palmer, 46, of Randolph Street passed away November 21, 2011 at 8:55 am in Jameson Memorial Hospital.

Diane was born in Ellwood City on December 8, 1964 to the late Laurie Vernon Kelly and Charlotte L. Allison, who survives.

Diane had worked at Lark Enterprises and was a member of PARC.

She was of the Presbyterian faith.

In addition to her Mother, Diane is survived by one brother, Daniel Kelly of Virginia.

She was preceded in death by her father and a brother, Terry Kelly in February of 1963.

Patricia L. Clark

Patricia Clark, 88, formerly of Highland Avenue, died peacefully on October 14, 2011, at the Jameson Care Center.

Pat was born in New Castle to the late James Francis Loy and Clara Blews, on May 27, 1923. She graduated from New Castle High School. She married Frank M. Clark on March 14, 1941, and lived for the next thirty years in Bessemer and Washington D.C.

Pat was active in Girl Scouts for 25 years. She was a member of Wimodausis and the Congressional Club. Pat’s special concern was the alcohol and drug program in New Castle and she volunteered at Drug and Alcohol Community Treatment Services. She also served two terms on the Lawrence County Drug and Alcohol Commission.

Pat also had the honor, in 1967, of christening the US Coast Guard ship Steadfast.

Pat was a long time member of the New Castle Playhouse. She served as President of the Playhouse for six years overseeing the purchase and renovation of the old State Theater. For her work at the Playhouse, she received the Volunteer in the Arts Award from Consolidated Natural Gas Company Foundation and WQED FM.

Pat was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and served as Deacon, Elder and Chairman of the Needle Workers.

Pat was also a former employee of the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue.

She is survived by two sons, Frank, Jr. and Kelly Clark both of Massachusetts, four grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and her sisters Shirley Wimer and Myrna Hoyland both of New Castle.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Francis Loy Lucas.

A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church on Saturday, October 29 at 2 pm. And will be conducted by Rev. Nathan Loudon, pastor. In lieu of flowers, Pat’s wish was that donations be made to the New Castle Playhouse, 202 East Long Avenue, New Castle PA 16101.

Donald R. Watters, Sr.

Donald R. Watters Sr., 82, of Roy Drive, Shenango Township, passed away at 11:10 a.m. Sept. 20, 2011, at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown.

Mr. Watters was born in New Castle on May 27, 1929, to the late George and Isabelle Leonhardt Watters. He was married 62 years to the former Peggy Floyd who survives at home.

Mr. Watters was the owner of the former Watters Cemetery Memorials Co. Don loved golfing, hunting, baseball, basketball, walking his dog, and spending time with his family. He attended many area high school baseball, basketball and football games. He was a member of Third Presbyterian Church and a Mason. Don served in Germany during the Korean War when his National Guard unit was activated.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two daughters and a son-in-law, Terry Watters, and Lori and Todd Gricks Sr., all of New Castle; as well as his grandchildren, Donnie Watters III, and Tiffany, Tyler and Todd Gricks Jr.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Donald Watters Jr., his brother, George Watters, a sister, Theda Armstrong, and granddaughter, Brittney J. Watters.

No calling hours are planned.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Sept. 24 at Third Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Michael Spicuzza of the church will officiate.

Interment will be in Oak Park Cemetery.

Leo F. Callahan

Leo F. Callahan, 82, of Harlansburg Road, Hickory Twp. passed away at 3:40 am on Friday, September 9 at the Avalon Nursing Center.

Mr Callahan was born in New Castle on November 25, 1928 to the late Patrick J. and Catherine A. ‘Giebel’ Callahan. He married the former Darlene Hall, who preceded him in death on August 19, 1995.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church and had attended the St. Mary’s parochial school as well as Union High School. He was a retired laborer and foreman having worked at the Crane Company and Asplundt Tree Service. He had been an avid and lifelong hunter and fisher.

Mr Callahan is survived by a son; Christopher Lee Callahan of New Castle, a step-daughter; Jolene Thompson of New Castle, two grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and three sisters; Rosemarie Carlyle of Toronto, OH., Mary Catherine McConnell of Volant, and Margaret Scala of New Brighton.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers; James E., Patrick J. and John P. Callahan.

George “John” V. Thompson

George V. “John” Thompson, 77, of Superior Street passed away at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2011, at Kindred Hospital in Beaver County.

Born in New Castle on Feb. 22, 1934, he was a son of the late Raymond and Anna C. Cramer Thompson. He married Helen M. McLaren Sept. 11, 1954. She survives at home.

George was a retired craneman and machinist, having worked at National Castings in Sharon and Blaw-Knox Steel in Ellwood City.

In addition to his wife, survivors include three sons, David M. Thompson of New Castle, John F. and wife Deborah Thompson of Warren, Ohio, and James D. and wife Jolene Thompson; a daughter, Peggy J. and husband Harlin Rodgers of Pulaski; two sisters, Marian Kobilka and Pauline McCartney, both of New Castle; grandchildren, John and Dan Rodgers, Kelly Bartley, Laura Probst, Lindsay Parker, Amber and Sal Thompson; and great-grandchildren, Cheyanne, Charles, and Ashley Probst, Cameron and Hunter Parker, Christian and Myley Rodgers, and Kaylee and Nicholas Bartley.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Maria Thompson; and four brothers, Edward, Walter, Charles and Donald Thompson.

A memorial service conducted by Rev. Ronald D. Mounts will be held at 1 p.m. Aug. 7 at the New Castle Church of God, 905 Highland Ave.

William E. Graham

William E. Graham, 94, of New Castle passed away at 8:10 AM on July 9, 2011 at the Jameson Hospital.

Mr. Graham was born in Swissvale, PA. on May 7, 1917 to the late William H. and Edna ‘Britton’ Graham. He was married to the late Helen Baltrose for 57 years, preceding him in death on August 17, 2006.

Mr. Graham retired as a machinist from Mesta Machine Co. and had previously worked at United Engineering Corp. He served in the Navy during WWII on the USS Southerland in the Pacific Theatre. He was a lifelong member of Highland Presbyterian Church and a member of the International Association of Machinists. He was also a member of: Westmister - Lodge of the Craft #433 F.&A.M., the Valley of New Castle Consistory, and the Lawrence Caravan.

He is survived by a Son; William L. Graham of Houston, TX., a Daughter and Son-in-Law; Barbara ‘Kitty’ and August Stache of Washington, PA, and two Grandchildren; Christine Marie and Catherine Elizabeth Stache.

In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Graham was preceded in death by his two Sisters; Margaret in 1983 and Edna Gertrude Graham in 2008.

Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6 to 7 PM at the Turner-Myers Funeral Home, 208 North Jefferson Street, New Castle. Funeral services will follow at 7 PM in the funeral home with August Stache, Son-in-Law of Mr. Graham officiating.

Interment will be in Oak Park Cemetery.
